Glen Ellen is named after the wife of early Sonoma Valley settler Charles V. Stuart, who came to California in 1849 and settled in the Glen Ellen area about 1869.

Glen Ellen is in Sonoma Valley, Sonoma County, California, United States. The population was 784 at the 2010 census, down from 992 at the 2000 census.

Set among large oak trees, Glen Ellen is has somehow become a favorite secret foodie village.

Ari Weiswasser’s (formerly of the famed French Laundry) Glen Ellen Star, The Fig, and the Glen Ellen Inn all provide well reviewed dinners. Bike riders as well as locals frequently line up at the Garden Court Cafe for delicious breakfasts and lunch.

Another major attraction is the Jack London Historic State Park, Sonoma Valley Regional Park, and a former home of Hunter S. Thompson. It’s 47 acres include the ruins of his Wolf House ranch buildings and winery which hosts, during the summer months, the Transcendence Theater. The Transcendence features top talented Broadway performers doing musical theater pieces and has won numerous awards. Many attendees arrive early for shows in time to picnic with sandwiches from the Glen Ellen Village Market deli or the food trucks that surround the park field.
